A film could soon be made about the block-building video game Minecraft.



Minecraft creator Markus Persson revealed this week that the game's maker was talking to Warner Brothers about the project.

Persson stated that he shared the news to stop someone else from leaking information about the deal.



Movie news site Deadline reported the one of the producers of the recent Lego Movie is handling the project.



Deadline reports that Warner had plans to make a film of a "live action" version.



The film is still in the early stages of production, as Warner just recently acquired the rights that Minecraft's iconic blocks, characters, and monsters.



The news comes less than two weeks after Minecraft creator Mojang took action to shut down a Kickstarter project seeking to raise funds for a film based on the game.



Hollywood has a long history of struggling to adapt best-selling games to film. Many projects never reach the planning stage.



For example, a movie set in the science-fictional Halo universe has been in development for nine years, but filming has yet started despite multiple scripts being written.



Similar films based upon Bioshock, Gears of War, and Metal Gear Solid Work are all being discussed but have yet to be shot.



World of Warcraft is a game that is being made into a movie. Filming began in January with Duncan Jones, a British director. The film is set to be released in early 2016.
